The Centenary Park Disc Golf Course is located on the West end of St. Georges Island (This is the island the Calgary Zoo is located on) You can reach the course from east bound Memorial Drive - take the Zoo turn off and park on the west side of the parking lot -or- from 9th avenue (Inglewood), turn north at Spolumbos Deli, go across the narrow zoo bridge and follow the road to the parking lot on your left, as before, park on the west side. The CDGA has met with the City of Calgary regarding the
redesign of the Centenary Park Disc Golf Course.
Map of the course - May 2004
In order for us to keep this course, we disc golfers must be very careful with safety and environmental concerns... First of all, park goers have the right of way, therefore do NOT throw if there is ANY chance of an errant disc hitting anyone, wait until all is clear or send out a spotter. Second, if your disc comes to rest in a tree or bush (as it inevitably will), do NOT just stomp in to your disc breaking branches along the way. Instead, tread lightly and watch where you place your feet, or take relief behind the bush and play from there. Lastly, respect the park. Put all your your trash, pop cans, cigarette butts, apple cores, etc. (and any garbage that you you are so kind to pick up) into the garbage bins located throughout the park. Do NOT throw ANYTHING on the ground. If you brought it in, throw it in the garbage or take it home with you. *** It is a privilege, not a right, to have a disc golf course in this public park. IF WE DO NOT RESPECT THE SAFETY OF OTHER PARK USERS, AND WE DO NOT RESPECT THE ENVIRONMENTAL / LITTER CONCERNS OF THE PARK, THE CITY WILL REMOVE THIS COURSE. If that happens, and considering the difficulty we've had with establishing disc golf courses in Calgary, where will we be able to play then? *** Other Images Of The Course Photos courtesy Dave Jury except for the Flood pictures which are from Ron (Rudy) Falconer |
