FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SUBJECT: SPRING FLING… THE SPRING SEEDING EVENT FOR THE 2002 ALBERTA DISC GOLF TOUR TAKES PLACE THIS WEEKEND IN OLDS AB.
LOCATION: HARTMAN GREEN PARK TIME: 1030 AM TO 5 PM MARCH 23.
The Calgary Disc Golf Association and the Alberta Disc Sports Association remind everyone that the first event of the 2002 Alberta Disc Golf Tour, the ‘Spring Fling’, will occur this Saturday at the Hartman Green Disc Golf Course in the Town of Olds, Alberta.
Traditionally, the first tournament on the Alberta Disc Golf Tour identifies (or seeds) all the Tour players in the Province of Alberta. The top ‘seeds’ from this tournament are those players who will be expected to either win or contend in the other events on the 2002 Alberta Disc Golf Tour.
What begins with this tournament in Olds in March ends in late September when the title of 2002 Tour Champion is awarded following the last event on the 2002 Tour. This final tournament is currently scheduled for the very challenging Lily Lake Disc Golf Course north of Edmonton; which was the venue for last year’s 2001 Canadian Disc Golf Championships.
As the first event of the 2002 Alberta Disc Golf Tour, a strong showing in ‘Spring Fling’ will also be crucial for those players who are seeking to win one of the highly coveted ‘cards’; awarded upon completion of the final 2002 Tour event to the top Disc Golf players in the Province of Alberta.
To sum up then, between March and September the 2002 Alberta Disc Golf Tour players (male and female) will compete in a variety of tournaments on Disc Golf courses that reflect much of the unique geography of our province including: the dramatic alpine landscapes of Canmore, the lush river valley parks of Edmonton, the windswept prairie of Lethbridge, and the spectacular beauty of the foothills just outside Calgary.
These Disc Golf courses, and the variety of environmental conditions the players encounter during the next six months will test the stamina and disc-throwing skills of all the 2002 Tour Players. It will also reveal their psychological and mental toughness during competition under adverse conditions, including the very ‘non-spring like conditions’ we are expecting this coming weekend.
Disc Golf players from across the Province of Alberta are expected to register at Hartman Green Park (directly west of the rodeo grounds) beginning at 1030 AM Saturday March 23. Entry fees will be discounted for players who register before 1100 AM, and who bring a donation for the Calgary Food Bank. At 1130 AM all players will assemble for an address by the Tournament Director, to be followed immediately by a ‘shotgun’ start to 2002 Spring Fling.
